3 dead, 3 hospitalized in Northside house fire

The San Antonio Fire Department is investigating after a house fire killed three people and left three others hospitalized early Saturday, July 22.

Officials report there was heavy smoke throughout the entire house located in the 16610 Block of Winding Oak Dr. when officials arrived at the home around 3 a.m. SAFD spokesperson Joe Arrington said that neighbors told first responders that the home’s occupants were inside and firefighters rescued six people, three adults and three children.

One person died due to smoke inhalation at the home and five people were transported to local hospitals. Arrington said that two of the home’s residents died of smoke inhalation in the hospital. Officials said the victims are two adults and one child.

Arrington said the cause of the fire remains under investigation by arson and fire investigators, but noted that officials discovered there were no working smoke alarms throughout the entire home. The fire preliminarily appears to have begun in the garage.
