A crash on a San Antonio university was the result of a campus police officer almost being hit by a vehicle, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
At about 3:05 a.m. early Sunday morning, April 14, SAPD officers responded to a call for a major accident that involved an officer at the 500 block of Kings Court on the Trinity University campus. While heading to the scene, SAPD was notified that a Trinity University Police Officer had been “struck by a fleeing vehicle.” Once on-scene, the SAPD found a vehicle that had wrecked out in front of the Trinity Police Sub Station, and also found the Trinity police officer.
The officer told SAPD he was doing his normal campus checks and saw a man, 18, standing in the parking lot. When the officer attempted to make contact, the man then got into his vehicle. The officer said he identified himself as campus police but the man “refused to listen” to commands and sped off towards the police officer.
The officer was able to get out of the way, SAPD said, and the man drove right past him before crashing at the scene. The man was immediately taken into custody, without incident, officials said. Following an evaluation on-scene, he was arrested and charged him with evading arrest/driving while intoxicated. There were also no injuries to report from the incident, SAPD said.
